Hello! I’m Dina, the artist and maker behind Hue & Shades.

I’ve spent the last 15 years working in the design industry where I’ve always had an obsession with colour, light and texture. Hue & Shades started one day when I grabbed an old lampshade destined for the skip, took it apart and transformed into a striped melody of colour for my children’s bedroom. Then I made another and another.

Now based in my small surrey studio, each lampshade I create is designed and woven by hand directly onto the frame using a variety of natural yarns to give each piece a unique finish.

Hue & Shades is about how your lampshade feels and the mood it creates as much as it looks. We source unique natural yarns, from recycled cottons to soft bamboo remnants in order to create different finishes and looks. Our products are crafted with meticulous attention to detail, offering unique and vibrant designs for any interior space. Our collections span both classic timeless designs and bold contemporary ones.

Our Ethos

We’re a big believer in following your own style for your home and having quality pieces that will be enjoyed for many years. Whilst we realise some of our lampshades would be considered on trend, we have a commitment to conscious consumerism and hope that our customers look to us for products that stand the test of time.

Hue & Shades started it’s journey upcycling old lampshades and this still remains a large part of what we do. We use everything here from recycled frames, remnant yarn, end of line products, or upcycled materials, saving these items from landfill and giving them a new lease of life. These pieces will be sold as one off pieces and limited editions as the materials cannot be restocked.

All of our packaging is recyclable or repurposed from deliveries that we have received, as we make continued effort to reuse wherever possible. As such, if you receive your package with some bubble wrap you can be assured that this is repurposed. Our reuse policy also means your package may not always look pristine from the outside, but your lampshade has had the utmost care on the inside. We do need to use a small amount of plastic to keep your shades clean, free from dust but also weatherproof in case your postie decides to leave your parcel in the rain.
